Misty was the last born of the waterflower sisters in Ceruleon City. She had a difficult life, her sisters were older and more beautiful then her. She had a fear of Gyarados ever since she climbed it's mouth and was almost swallowed by one when she was a baby, but she overcame that fear when she caught one. She travelled with Ash through Kanto, Orange and Johto just before being forced to return to the Gym by her sisters beacause they won a world trip. She still wanted to travel with Ash.

Out of all of Ash's ever changing companions, Misty is the only one who is a fully three dimensional character. She isn't only ambitious and smart, but also quick to take her chances when she can. Misty's departure also made many Pokeman fans sad and they still wish to see her as Ash's companion once again. And it's easy to understand why given how complex her character was compared to others on the show.
